In sanskrit, Shatavari word is constituted from two different words i,e. Shat+vari. Shat means hundred and vari means roots. It means a plant with 100 roots. “Vari” also means that one who has the power to cure hundreds of deseases.
The plant grows 1-2 metres in height. The roots of the plant spreads gravelly. The harvesting of Shatavari is believed to destructive and that’s the reason it is declared “Endangered”. Shatavari has a pine-niddle like structure that are uniform and shiny green in nature. It was botanically described by scientists in 1799. Shatavari is believed to promote love and faith and is also known as the “Queen of Herbs”.
The other names of Shatavari are Wild Asparagus, Asparagus roots, Shatavarmul, Kilwari, Shatapadi, Shatamuli,etc.
